Well, for one thing…I know that my insurance premiums never decrease ..LOL — they are always going up and up just like my property taxes… and I don’t even have any kids in school …and most of my property taxes go for schools …
And I know a visit to a doctor’s office is getting more expensive as time goes on. I remember the days when i could go to a doctor office and sit on a couch in the waiting room and wait to be seen …in company with a couple more people with all kinds of complaints and ailments …coughing and sneezing and spreading their shit …I remember when that doctor visit cost Three Dollars and then the drug store got another few bucks for the medicines the doctor prescribed. The whole thing might come to as much as Five dollars….back when i was making $40 dollars a week busting my ass at digging graves at the cemetery. Now a single doctor visit can cost me Two Hundred dollars just for the office call.
When I go to the doctor, who is usually a general practitioner, he is more than likely to send me to a pulmonologist with an office 30 miles from where I live–just because my face is red, my temperature is 99 degrees and I might sneeze or cough once in awhile. Gotta have that $800 dollar chest x-ray, don’t we? Or I might get sent for a stress test at a cardiology place and end up with a Two Thousand dollar bill just for running on an exercise track for a few minutes and hear the doctor go, “Hmmm! as he scribbles something on a sheet of paper.
Then, of course, back comes the insurance statement telling me the amount they have paid on the cardiologists stress test ($200) while the remaining $1,800 dollars is “My Share.”
Then there is the pharmacy — why there are pills available to sick people that cost as much as $30 dollars per pill or even more…I know of cases where a month worth of needed medicines can run into the thousands of dollars.
So I have to agree with some folks say, “America has the world’s best medical system.” Yes, I can agree with that if a person can afford it, that is.
